British Comedians 4: Peter Cook
Es war 1965 als der englische Komiker Peter Cook mit dem Song “The Ballad of Spotty Muldoon” tatsächlich in die englischen Hitparade kam. “Spotty” heißt natürlich “pickelig”. Ab 1962 unterstützte Cook das Satiremagazin Private Eye, engagierte sich für Amnesty International und trat bei Wohltätigkeitsveranstaltungen zugunsten Obdachloser auf.
Lassen wir Cook kurz selber zu Wort kommen:
“You realize that suicide’s a criminal offense — In less enlightened times they’d have hung you for it.”
“You know, I go to the theatre to be entertained… I don’t want to see plays about rape, sodomy and drug addiction… I can get all that at home.”
