Barry Brusseau ist ein ausgesprochen sympathischer amerikanischer Singer Songwriter, dessen Musik Sprachfetzen sehr mag. Aber nicht nur seine charmanten musikalischen Geschichten alleine sind es, die Barry Brusseau’s Platten herausragen lassen, nein, dazu kommen auch die liebevoll in Eigenarbeit gestalteten Cover und Postkarten die den Platten beigefügt sind.

Für Sprachfetzen beantwortete Barry die Frage ob er schon mal in England oder Deutschland gewesen sei, ob er ein Lieblingszitat hat und ob er einen Rat für die Sprachfetzen Leser hat.

In Amerika heißt das Handy “cell phone” in England “mobile” oder einfach nur “phone”.
Sprachfetzen besitzt kein solches Accessoire. Er hat nur einen Hausanschluß - “landline”.

“Last Christmas” by Wham!

What we’re doing is compiling an archive of all the versions of Wham!‘s “Last Christmas.”

Why? Well, We’re not sure.

Und Sprachfetzen ist sich auch nicht sicher ob dies einen Blogeintrag wert ist, aber egal hier ist der Link.

Noch anderthalb Wochen Weihnachten. Wir brauchen eine Soundtrack zu den Festtagen. Kein Problem - schauen wir mal bei Falalalala. Unter dem Motto “preserving the memories of Christmas vinyl past” gibt’s hier alles was braucht. Der rührige Webseitenbetreiber “started to bring this music out of the dusty flea markets and estate sales where they languished unheard but not, as I would find, unmissed.”.

Natürlich hat Sprachfetzen auch noch eine weihnachtliche Redewendung:

“Christmas comes but once a year” - “Es ist nicht alle Tage Sonntag”.

Genau!

Zum Wochenausklang wird die British Amerikanische Freundschaft von Sprachfetzen unterstützt. Nicht nur Bob Dylan wollte einmal bei den Liverpoolern mitspielen, nein Bruce Springsteen und Neil Young ebenso.

London Snorkelling Team ist eine Band that “play music they imagine may have happened some time in the 1950s, perhaps at a cocktail party for experimental scientists with a fascination for cartoons”.

Sprachfetzen meint: sollte man sehen. Besonders toll der Einsatz des Overhead Projektors wo zur Musik kleine Comicfiguren über die Folie geschoben werden. Faszinierend.

Ein bewegender Moment war der Auftritt des großen Edwyn Collins. On Sunday, February 20, 2005, Edwyn was admitted to hospital after collapsing at home. He was later diagnosed with having suffered two cerebral haemorrhages and underwent a precarious neurological operation. Incredibly, through a combination of surgical brilliance, the heroic support of his family and his own seemingly invincible will- power, Edwyn pulled through. Six months after his stroke, he was back at home. But more phenomenal still was his determination to overcome the physical after-effects hindering his movement and speech.
